This workshop will give cultural practitioners an overview of how to build a successful content strategy.

Who:

This workshop is aimed at people who want to get a better understanding of how to develop, plan and manage the publication of content and how it will help reach existing and new audiences. It is designed to be useful to people in management, those developing an organisation’s strategic approach or decision-makers in engagement or marketing roles looking to develop their organisation’s approach.

What:

Stories are how human beings communicate, the narrative arc is the fundamental building block of any attempt to transfer information from one human to another. Stories can be found anywhere you choose to look.

But these stories don’t tell themselves, while internet pioneer Clay Shirkey postulated in 2009: ‘almost anyone can now become an accidental publisher’, to be successful as a publisher you have to know how to think, act and plan like a publisher, which means you need a content strategy.

This workshop will give cultural practitioners an overview of how to build a content strategy including the basics of:

  • What content is and why it matters
  • What content you have - the content funnel and the content calendar
  • Where to publish it - content types and publishing platforms
  • How to do it – the skills you need to acquire
  • Is it worth it - KPIs
  • Things you need to be aware of – rights etc

Attendees will leave the workshop with a draft content funnel and calendar they can populate on their own as well as a reading list for further information.
