Joel is responsible for the financial management and smooth running of The Audience Agency, including financial planning and reporting, supporting the board of trustees to provide effective governance, and working with the rest of the leadership team on business planning and strategy.
He was previously the Deputy Director of City Arts Nottingham and has a deep commitment to community arts and inclusivity in the cultural sector. He has previously worked for Creative People and Places programmes, library services, literature development agencies and Arts Council England.
His own creative background is in writing – he has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and has been published by Penguin, Hamish Hamilton and Pan Macmillan. He was previously Poet Laureate for Lincolnshire and teaches the Advanced Creative Writing course at the Open University. His work has been featured on Channel 4, BBC One, Radio 4 and Radio 3. He wrote a short film that won the NFBC Short Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010.
At home, he is completely outclassed by his wife, who is a successful picture book author, and three daughters who are all far cleverer and more creative than him.
