Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Digital Snapshot, bringing you all the latest digital news, ideas, tips and guidance for the arts, culture, museums and heritage world.
Latest News
- The Digital Culture Awards 2023 shortlist has been announced. If you click through into each category you can eventually get to some case studies hosted on Zealous - here's the one for Digital Content.
- OpenAI has released ChatGPT4. The biggest change is that it can accept images as inputs, meaning it can describe and interpret an image. As the power of AI exponentially increases I'm sure governments will implement sensible regulation at speed, just like they did with social media.
- Another domino falls in TikTok restrictions, as the UK bans the app on government phones. Ministers have said they'll just...carry on using it on their personal phones. So that's fine.
Useful / bookmarkable
- Google Trends has had a bit of a makeover, with more of a homepage to help you understand what's trending and why. See what's changed on their blog.
- Is your social media calendar written in crayon on your office wall? Then maybe Nicola Barratt's article on how to create a good one might help.
- Tickets are now available for Culture24's free webinar on Friday 12 May sharing their findings on ways to build a thriving hybrid working environment.
Distracting / entertaining / inspiring
- Why do people take fun things too seriously on social media? This video should resonate with a lot of you who run brand accounts.
- The viral account Weird Medieval Guys is branching out to artefacts. They're good at citing their sources but it'll be worth keeping an eye on the account in case your collection is featured.
- I usually listen to lofi girl on YouTube while working (and also featuring in this newsletter's header), but I don't think I'll be making the switch to lofi Boris Johnson.
Good Reads
- Arts Marketing: Jack of All, Master of None. This imaginary conversation between a normal marketer and an arts marketer by Sam Freeman is cathartic. He also proposes sharing resources and staff between local clusters of organisations, which would be nice wouldn't it.
