New and noteworthy
- We've really enjoyed listening to the 'Wez Builds a Theatre' podcast -the episodes are informal musings - with or without guests - and typically rethink the definition and/or traditional operational structures of theatres and arts venues. He's a big proponent of cultural democratisation and how that works in practice.
The latest episode questions the role of Creative Directors and proposes a series of (radical) alternative audience-centred models for his listenership to ponder the pros and cons of. - If you haven't already, it's worth checking out Culture is Not an Industry - a book by Justin O'Connor, which gives a context for so many of the dilemmas and compromises, dissonance and nuance we try to navigate every day, as well as arguing the big "Why Culture" very cogently.
- Artificial intelligence and new technology in creative industries is a recently published article addressing how new and rapidly changing technologies are shaping how people create and consume culture, with some interesting questions raised.
