Hello and welcome to the Digital Snapshot, bringing you all the latest digital news, inspiration, tips and guidance for the arts, culture, museums and heritage world.
Hey there. There have been some big changes in the political landscape here in the UK over the last week or so, only time will tell what that means for the sector - but here's hoping. In more general news, the weather's a bit pants right? Wake me up when it's summer.
A couple of weeks back I joined our Director of Evidence & Insight, Oliver Mantell, for one of our TEA Break events focusing on 'Reviews & Recommendations'. Oliver unpacked our latest research into audience trends around where people find trusted sources of information and inspiration for things to do. I provided some thoughts and context to the research, with a particular focus on digital audience behaviours. I've shared some of those insights links below and you can watch the full recording on our YouTube channel.
Also, FYI there's something potentially REALLY good in the 'Something good' section. Enjoy and chat next time.

💥 Distracting / entertaining / inspiring
- Back in 2021 I spotted a story about Japan's efforts to remove the use of floppy disks in government. They have only just announced that the project has been a success. Today it's floppy disks, tomorrow it will be USBs. It won't be long until everything is in the cloud and physical media / storage is a thing of the past.
- Here's an interesting look at the future of Google and search - how will it change the web and what does that mean for content producers?
- A museum partnership in New York Citay is inviting visitors to take home fragments of digital artworks.
- I'm a big fan of the online bank Monzo, particularly for travelling abroad (this is not a paid plug, but I'm here if they're reading). They recently published their writing principles, which is pretty much a tone of voice document. It's long, but well worth a read to get an idea of their successful approach. H/T to Adam Koszary for sharing on LinkedIn and still contributing links to this newsletter ❤️.
- Everything is a game these days. I guess they assume we won't do it if it isn't fun. Here's a look at how gamification has taken over the world.
👍 Something good
