There's been a lot happening in AI. Google's shares plummeted after its chatbot Bard got a question wrong during a promotional video and the suggestion that AI is the future of music has been a little controversial. If you subscribe to Nick Cave's newsletter, you'll know he's already made his feelings known: "Songs arise out of suffering, by which I mean they are predicated upon the complex, internal human struggle of creation and, well, as far as I know, algorithms don’t feel. Data doesn’t suffer."

If your mind gets turned into soup when you try and understand ChatGPT, then this article by Ted Chiang may help. He uses the analogy of the AI model being like a blurry JPEG of the internet, meaning something is lost in the reproduction.
