Monday's Día de los Muertos celebrations will look rather different this year, and yet the spirit of the festival has perhaps never been so relevant on the global stage. The sentiment of colour, community, vivacity and celebrating what we have had, as much as mourning what is lost, embodies the power of cultural expressions and dynamic attitudes to find light in darkness. To that end, we have been working with colleagues at Centre for Cultural Value to think more deeply about culture's capacity to support mental wellbeing at a time when that effort has never been so crucial, and to think about what the healing role of culture might be in post-COVID communities. |
